Samsung finally implements seamless updates feature on its smartphones, starting with the Galaxy A55

The seamless updates Android feature introduced by Google way back in 2016 was adopted by most Android OEMs except Samsung. Samsung said it was working on implementing seamless updates on its Android smartphones, and after eight years, the Korean brand has finally brought this feature to its devices, with the Galaxy A55 being the first Samsung smartphone to benefit from it.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 recently received the March 2024 Android security patch in India with firmware version A556EXXS1AXC1, which also brought the seamless updates feature to the smartphone. Thus, users will see two messages upon downloading an update – “Downloading and installing” and “Verification.”

The seamless updates feature allows the update to be installed on partition B while you use your phone in partition A and restart it when the installation is complete. This keeps the device usable during the installation and is only unavailable when it’s restarting, which could take up to 90 seconds on the Galaxy A55, meaning you no longer have to wait a few minutes for the entire installation process to complete to use your phone.

It’s unclear which Samsung smartphone will get the seamless updates feature next, but it’s unlikely that older models will support it since the device needs to be configured for this feature before it leaves the factory.
