Galaxy A35 and A55 official, Xperia 1 VI, 5 VI, 10 VI RAM leaks, Week 11 in review

by TexasDigitalMagazine.com

The Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35’s official debut was by far the most popular story of the past week. The Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 are built around the same display – a 6.6-inch 1080x2340px Super AMOLED panel with 120 Hz refresh rate. They also share a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging support and Samsung’s new Key Island design language.

The frame is different though, with the Galaxy A55 using metal to the Galaxy A35’s plastic. The Galaxy A55 5G has the Exynos 1480 SoC with an AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 530 GPU. In contrast, the Galaxy A35 settles for the older 5nm Exynos 1380 that the Galaxy A54 used.

The Galaxy A55 has a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultrawide camera and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. The Galaxy A35 5G comes with a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, an 8MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultrawide shooter, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro unit. Samsung promises 4 years of major OS updates and 5 years of security patches for both new Galaxy A series phones. That’s two years shorter than what the flagship series got, but still impressive for a mid-ranger.

You can get the Galaxy A55 in 8/128GB for €480, while other available options are 8/256GB (€530), and 12/256GB variants. The Galaxy A35 starts at €380 for the 6/128GB trim, has a 8/128GB middle option and tops out at €450 for the 8/256GB variant.

The RAM amounts of the Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 5 VI, and Xperia 10 VI leaked. The Xperia 1 VI flagship will be available in either 12GB or 16GB. The compact Xperia 5 VI will only come with 8GB, while the Xperia 10 VI will come with 6GB or 8GB.

Samsung's Galaxy A55 and A35 are official with 6.6

Motorola unveiled the Moto G Power 5G (2024) and Moto G (2024) – both are coming to the US and Canada later this month, or early next month. The Motorola Moto G Power 5G (2024) grows its display to 6.7” (that’s 0.2” more than the 2023 model), but it is still an IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. No OLEDs here. The camera is a fairly big improvement – the 50MP man camera now has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and there is even an 8MP ultra-wide (118°) that also doubles as a macro camera (the 2023 model lacked an UW module). The front-facing camera has a 16MP sensor. The phone is powered by the Dimensity 7020 chipset with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery is a solid 5,000mAh with 30W wired charging, and 15W of wireless charging – a first on this device.

The Moto G Power 5G (2024) will be available from US carriers starting on March 22 (T-Mobile, Metro, AT&T, US cellular, Verizon, Straight Talk, Total, Walmart Family Mobile, and Visible). The price for an unlocked unit is $300.

The Moto G (2024) is Motorola’s first phone to use the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 with 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The display is pretty similar to last year, 6.6” LCD with 120Hz refresh rate but only HD+ resolution. The camera hasn’t seen many changes either, the main module houses a 50MP sensor and it is joined by a dedicated macro camera. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera. The battery is basically unchanged too, with 5,000mAh capacity and 18W wired-only charging (last year’s model was rated at 15W).

US carriers will be the first to offer the Moto G (2024) – starting on March 21, it will be offered by T-Mobile and Metro. The price unlocked is $200.

The Galaxy S24 series’ global sales surpass those of the Galaxy S23 series. Globally, sales of the Galaxy S24 series is 8% higher than the S23 models in the same period (January 28 to February 17). This doesn’t sound like much, but some regions saw a more significant increase. Boosted by strong pre-orders in Western Europe (the UK, Germany and France in particular), the sales of S24 phones are up 28%. In South Korea, the flagship trio sold 22% more. In the US, the numbers are 14% higher.
