Dan (William Holden) and Tod (Glenn Ford), a gritty pair of drifters just out of the Confederate Army, travel from Kansas to Texas in search of adventure. After arriving in Texas, they fall on opposite sides of the law following a cattle theft. Dan leads a group of rustlers, while Tod helps the swindled rancher fend off the bad guys.
