On June 16, 2022, at approximately 7:23 a.m., the San Benito Police Department received information about a threat made by a San Benito CISD student on the Snapchat social media platform. The student, who was attending summer school at San Benito High School, made the threat by posting a photo of himself holding a handgun with the caption, “Don’t come to school tomorrow.”

San Benito Police Officers and San Benito CISD Police immediately responded to the high school the student attended as well as to his place of residence. Officers located the student at his residence before he left for school, and he was taken into custody.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect obtained a photo of another student with a weapon and added the caption, which prompted the emergency response. The suspect was charged with one count of felony terroristic threat.
