TAH Summer and Weekend Seminars

by TexasDigitalMagazine.com

As many teachers are counting down the days until the school year is done, TAH is ramping up for our Summer and Weekend Teacher Seminars! Although our Summer Teacher Seminar application window has closed, we are aiming to post the Fall 2026 Weekend Teacher Seminars by June 1, 2026, with a record number of options for our teachers! We are on pace to host nearly 35 Weekend and Summer Seminars next academic year, a handful of which are related to the American Founding for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Invited teachers prepare ahead of time by reading selected documents provided in the course packet. During the seminar, the discussion leader guides a peer-to-peer, text-based conversation among all participants. Meals, materials, private rooms, and historical site visits are 100% covered by Teaching American History. At the end of each course, every teacher receives a letter of participation for 15 contact hours and a $600 stipend to cover travel costs. TAH holds applications every quarter, meaning teachers have four opportunities each year to apply for a chance to attend.

Some things to keep in mind before applying:

  1. TAH Weekend and Summer Seminars are targeted toward secondary social studies teachers. While we encourage all interested teachers to apply, other teaching subjects or grade levels may not be prioritized.
  2. You may only apply to one seminar per application period. If multiple applications are submitted, we will only save the most recently submitted form.
  3. Please consider travel logistics and expenses before choosing the seminar you would like to attend.
  4. In the event your application has been rejected in the past, this does not mean you are unqualified to attend our seminars. Many great teachers are turned down due to the high volume of applications we receive for a limited number of positions. Please do not get discouraged and keep applying!
TAH teachers in Arizona

At the end of March, TAH hosted a Weekend Seminar in Tucson, Arizona, with a historic site visit to the Titan Missile Museum. The title of this seminar was “The Cold War: From Origins to Apogee, 1945-1962”. They examined the first half of the Cold War, from its origins through the Cuban Missile Crisis, with an emphasis on the different ways that the ongoing contest with the Soviet Union was handled by Presidents Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy. A few examples of documents cover in the seminar readings were The Atlantic Charter (1941), Report to the American People on Korea, and John F. Kennedy Statement on Cuba.

“Great experience, I learned a lot that I can’t wait to share with my students and fellow teachers.  We had great discussions.”- Leonard, AZ teacher

“The seminar was amazing and I was so happy to be selected. I am teaching the Cold War in a couple of weeks and am very excited to bring more perspective and depth to my classroom.”-Ray, CA teacher

Everyone at Teaching American History wishes you a great end to your school year, and we hope to see you soon!
