After breaking ground in Journal Square in 2014, the three-building rental development Journal Squared was completed last year. Developed by KRE Group and National Real Estate Advisors, the $900 million project includes three luxury high-rise towers, reaching 53, 60, and 68 stories, with a total of 1,840 rental apartments. In terms of quick commutes to Manhattan, it’s hard to beat Journal Squared, which sits directly above the Journal Square Transportation Center, home to a PATH station and private and NJ Transit bus lines. By the waterfront in Paulus Hook, The Gotham is a 22-story building with 220 apartments. The building is about two blocks from both the Grove Street and Exchange Place PATH train stations and about a 10-minute walk from the NY Waterway ferry, making Manhattan only minutes away. In addition to its proximity to public transit, The Gotham stands out for its Art Deco-inspired facade, spacious units, and easy access to the many restaurants and shops that line Grove Street.

A city within a city, the master-planned neighborhood of Newport sits on 600 acres of waterfront in Jersey City. The neighborhood, which is six times the size of Battery Park City, has been built by LeFrak over the last four decades, transforming an abandoned swath of land into a mixed-use community of more than 10,000 residents living in nearly two dozen residential buildings.

Marketed as “Manhattan’s best-kept secret,” Newport offers luxury living, scenic views, shopping, and a seven-minute commute to New York City via the PATH train. Plus, the light rail can be found at Newport Centre mall, allowing for easy access to other NJ neighborhoods along the waterfront, and with multiple stops nearby, the ferry makes for a quick and pleasant trip into New York.

Bisby is a new luxury rental in Newport that opened last year. Designed by Minno & Wasko with interiors and amenities by Woods Bagot, the 34-story building at 30 Park Lane North contains 365 units, ranging from studios to four-bedroom penthouses. The Journal
36 Journal Square Plaza

Jersey City’s long-awaited mega-development in Journal Square began leasing this fall. Developed by Kushner and designed by Woods Bagot, The Journal is a $1 billion mixed-use development with two 710-foot-tall towers and about 1,700 apartments. After breaking ground in 2022, the first phase of 966 rentals launched leasing this summer. The property sits steps away from the Journal Square PATH station, with direct access to Midtown, Lower Manhattan, Newark, and Hoboken.

Residences feature soaring 9-foot ceilings, wide-plank flooring, smart-home technology, stainless steel appliances, spa-like bathrooms, and oversized windows that offer expansive views and lots of sunlight.

Residents of The Journal will have access to “The Journal Club,” 45,000 square feet of high-end amenities. There’s an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a cold plunge pool, a whirlpool spa, a bowling alley, a golf simulator, co-working spaces, multiple lounges, and a kids’ club. 25 Christopher Columbus Drive

Standing among the tallest buildings in Jersey City, Haus25 was completed in 2022. Located at 25 Christopher Columbus Drive, the 57-story luxury rental tower rises 600 feet and offers 750 sustainability-focused apartments, a range of resort-style amenities, and a public school at its base. The rental sits conveniently between the Grove Street and Exchange Place PATH train stations. Ferry and light rail services are also close by, and there’s a bus stop in front of the building.

Developed by Veris Residential, the building was designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, with interiors by Fogarty Finger and outdoor landscapes by Melillo Bauer Carman.

Sable, Jersey City’s distinctive Jenga-like 69-story residential tower, opened to the public in 2017. Situated prominently on the waterfront, Sable (formerly Urby) puts residents just steps from the Exchange Place PATH station and the light rail at Harborside.

Liberty Towers is next to the light rail at Essex Street, across from the ferry at Paulus Hook, and about five minutes from the PATH at Exchange Place.
