Just three months since its closure in April, beloved Brooklyn nightclub Paragon is set to return.
The Bushwick venue has been granted another lifeline by the borough’s own Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson, who decided to help out after two well-received performances at the club last year. Saunderson will also become Paragon’s newest resident DJ, joining the likes of Byrell The Great, TYGAPAW, quest?onmarq, and Boy Harsher’s Augustus Muller.
“Coming back to Brooklyn, where my story started, and bringing what Detroit gave me—it feels like a full-circle moment,” Saunderson said in a press statement. “Clubs like the Paradise Garage and the Loft shaped my soul, and now Paragon gives me the chance to give that energy back to a new generation.”
Opening night will take place on Friday, August 1, with Saunderson, Carlos Souffront, Ashley Venom, LOKA, and Ana B gracing the decks. The rest of the month will feature only Friday programming, except for its third annual post-parade Dominican Night party on Sunday, August 10th. Paragon will resume its Friday and Saturday night schedule in September. Events and tickets will be announced soon.
“Paragon represents the kind of space where past, present, and future dance together. I’m here not just to play music , but to help keep the spirit of real club culture alive—raw, soulful, and forward-thinking,” Saunderson added in his statement.
Paragon first opened in April 2022 in the wake of Bossa Nova Civic Club—also run by John Barclay—getting forced into an indefinite hiatus after sustaining damage from a house fire on the third floor of the building. Bossa was able to reopen later that year and return to institutional status. Paragon’s closure, on the other hand, had nothing to do with any structural damage. The venue had two good years and change of fostering community in Brooklyn’s convergent electronic and dance music scenes before announcing in January that it would be shutting its doors for financial reasons.
