Roberta’s Pizza has opened its first standalone location in Manhattan. The renowned restaurant, which opened in Bushwick in 2008 and quickly became a foodie favorite for its wood-fired Neapolitan-style pies, can be found between 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, next to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, within Vornado’s mixed-use Penn District campus. The two-story restaurant combines a ground-floor to-go slice shop, a full-service restaurant, and a roof deck with a Tiki bar, the latter of which will open later this month.
“The Penn District is an exciting and dynamic neighborhood that embodies the creativity and culinary excellence that Roberta’s offers,” Robert’as co-owner Brandon Hoy said. “It’s been a dream of ours to one day have a Manhattan location, and we are thrilled that this dream is now a reality.”
Designed by Winter D’Angelillo and Hoy, Roberta’s rustic chic decor creates a welcoming atmosphere for all occasions. The space features 200 seats across the two floors, including a sunny 2,000-square-foot roof deck.
The menu will feature classic pizzas, like the Famous Original (tomato, mozzarella, parmigiano, caciocavallo, oregano, chili) and the Bee Sting (tomato, mozzarella, soppressata, basil, chili, honey), along with “large-format dry-aged steaks and chops and a diverse selection of fresh seafood options,” according to a press release.
The to-go slice shop, dubbed R Slice, will offer both wood-fired Neopolitan-style pizzas and New York-style pizza by the slice, including a new slice called Fire and Ice, which has stracciatella, chili oil, and basil. Cocktails, spirits, and a natural wine program are also available.
R Slice opened on July 2 and the restaurant and roof deck will open on July 16. Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Anita Gelato, which has locations in Israel, Australia, Europe, and two in NYC, will open on the ground floor.
The new restaurant faces Plaza33, a newly opened pedestrian plaza with plantings, seating, lighting and easy accessibility to Penn Station. Designed by MNLA, the 16,000-square-foot plaza is the centerpiece of the Penn District, which has led to several new retail stores opening, including over 70 new restaurants since 2023.
New restaurants and cafes in the area include Blue Ribbon Sushi & Steak, Blue Bottle, The Landing, Office Hours, The Rutherford, Avenida, and Los Tacos No.1.
